Welcome to South Shore Sports Promotions

Created in 2006, South Shore Sports Promotions (SSSP) is an affiliate of the South Shore Convention & Visitors Authority (SSCVA). The main purpose of SSSP is to generate hotel room nights and stimulate economic growth by positioning Northwest Indiana as a premier sports events destination. By packaging the top sports facilities, hotels, and attractions along Lake Michigan’s beautiful South Shore, SSSP has been successful in bringing some of the nation’s top amateur and professional events to the area.

Within a year of the inception of SSSP, room nights more than doubled from nearly 6,500 in 2006 to more than 13,000 in 2007. Events like the NSA Girls Fast Pitch ‘B’ World Series and spring and fall Best of the Midwest Tournaments have contributed to this success.

“We made a decision to invest a lot of time, money and resources into the amateur sports market and it is truly paying off,” said Speros Batistatos, President and CEO of the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority. Part of that investment is a state of the art online housing system that allows visitors to book their rooms directly through the SSCVA website. More than 16,000 rooms have been booked on this system in two years.

Looking ahead to 2009, SSSP is gearing up for its biggest year to date. SSSP estimates more than 20,000 rooms will be booked in South Shore hotels due to amateur sports for an estimated economic impact of more than $5 million for area businesses. “It’s going to be our biggest year to date and that says a lot about the staying power of amateur sports with the current economy,” said Jason Sands, Director of Sports Development for SSSP.
